A security alert which forced residents to evacuate their homes in a Co Down town on Thursday night has been declared a hoax.
Police received a report of a suspicious device left outside a property in Burnreagh Court in Newtownards shortly before 8.30pm.
A number of homes were evacuated and the cul-de-sac was cordoned off before an army bomb disposal team attended.
Detective Constable Clare Killen said: "An object was located which was declared an elaborate hoax and has been taken away for further examination."
She also thanked local residents for their "patience and understanding" throughout the operation which she said was necessary to ensure their safety and that of those travelling in and around the area.
Police have appealed for anyone with information or who saw any unusual activity in the area to contact police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1418 of 22/12/17.
