Dibrugarh: A bomb hoax triggered panic here on Tuesday after a parcel containing firecrackers was recovered from a bus coming from Jorhat.
The bus driver said the parcel was sent by a shop in Jorhat, which was supposed to be collected by Ritesh Jalan, a resident of Jyotinagar here.
However, when no one turned up to claim the parcel, the driver panicked and informed police, who took it to a remote place in Mohanaghat.
Dibrugarh police station officer-in-charge Sideshwar Borah said a preliminary probe by the army's bomb squad confirmed that the parcel contained "some explosive materials".
"In the meantime, Jalan arrived to collect the parcel. He told us that it contained firecrackers, which he had ordered for a wedding," Borah said. "Jalan came to know about the incident from TV and reached the spot to claim the parcel," he added.
But security forces refused to give Jalan the parcel.
