A father who repeatedly made hoax bomb threats to his daughter's primary school so he could “spend more time with her” has been jailed for 14 months.

Gary Barnes, 25, sparked fears of a massacre after calling police and claiming that devices had been left inside the school on December 9 last year. More than 320 pupils and 45 staff at Tonacliffe Primary School in the small town of Whitworth, Lancashire, had to be evacuated as officers raced to the scene to carry out a thorough search.

Four days later Barnes made a second hoax bomb call. This was followed by a third on January 10, when the school reopened after the Christmas holidays. He told staff he was coming to collect his daughter and…
