The General Manager of Mt Scio Farms, the company responsible for producing Newfoundland savoury, a staple in Sunday dinner, says he’s moved by people’s loyalty to the brand.

Ian Carter was responding with some amusement to the panic created by a fake news story generated on the internet that suggested Mt. Scio Farms was closing down and Newfoundland savoury was going the way of Zest mustard pickles.

Similar stories were also circulating about Blue Star beer and Purity Jam Jams – all fake. Some grocery stores sold out of the popular herb as people – fearing the worst – stocked up.

Carter is moved by how important their product is to the general public. He says fully understanding people’s loyalty to the brand was something that he didn’t foresee coming out of the whole issue.
