Malcolm Hebden, an English television and stage actor, found dead is a celebrity death hoax. There is no truth to a report suggesting that the actor best known for his role as Norris Cole in the long-running ITV soap opera Coronation Street had died.
While fans of Hebden were worried that he had died, Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny Bradley in the soap, denied the horrible death rumors to fans. Rather, the story was false and cruel.
Matthews wrote on Twitter about the spreading death hoax on social meda, “Click bait. If more journalists wrote interesting, accurate, articulate articles then this phrase wouldn’t exist. We’d click because we would enjoy, appreciate, be educated by what we read x.”
How did this celebrity death hoax start? Florida Times published the death hoax.
Actor Malcom Hebden who plays Norris Cole on ITV soap Coronation Street has died following a brief hospitalization, a close family source revealed Wednesday morning.
The 78-year-old actor fell ill and was rushed to the hospital early this week where he was admitted. “We are in utter shock and disbelief right now,” the source said while confirming his death. “I know there will be much more to say in the coming days, and that so many of his fans will want to do everything they can to express their grief and to show support for the bereaved family.”
However, there is no truth to the story. Hebden was recently hospitalized with an illness. From that news, came an inaccurate story being shared on social media resulting in fans taking to social media accounts to share their sadness or ask Hebden’s colleagues for clarification. The story came from Florida Times, in which they falsely reported that Hebden had died. But it was false.
Hebden’s most recent health scare comes six years after he was taken ill on set and taken to hospital, an incident which was later confirmed to not be serious. However, Hebden is very much alive.
The Daily Mail said Hebden is still alive and well as confirmed by a Coronation Street spokesperson. Malcolm took on the role of Norris back in 1994 but then left the series in 1997. He returned to play the busy-body character in 1999 and has remained on the show ever since.
Here are some reactions on social media to the rumors of Hebden being dead.
