You probably didn’t need another reason to head to Troy Cassar-Daley’s free concert against domestic violence at Buchanan Park on Thursday, but here’s one.

Gates open 6pm and our own emergency services band The Hoax will be opening for the country and western legend.

The Hoax will be launching a song they wrote for White Ribbon, “Who do you want to be” which describes domestic violence through a police officer’s eyes.

Songwriter Cath Purcell said one of their goals was to write a song to send a message to encourage social change.

“I started writing ‘Who do you want to be’ after the Queensland music festival ‘Songs that made me’ workshop, and it has taken several weeks to review the lyrics until I was happy, and then we worked on the chords, rhythm and melody together until we found something that we were happy with,” Cath said.

“We are pretty proud and excited to be opening for Troy Cassar-Daley on Thursday, we all have full time jobs, we practise everyday after work, we get together around our different rosters, we have selected a mixture of country music and aussie pub rock to open on Thursday night.”
