Hoax 999 callers are endangering lives in Nuneaton - Nuneaton News

PRANK callers are putting lives at risk as police have noticed a rise in hoax 999 calls made from a Nuneaton community.

In just seven days, there have been six prank 999 calls from the phone boxes in the Tomkinson Road, Clifton Road and Vernons Lane area of town.

PC Esther Kinch, a Nuneaton West Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), told the News that the consequences of the hoax calls could be huge as it diverts the control team from taking genuine emergency calls.

"No requests were made and appears to be drop calls," PC Kinch explained.

"With children being off school, I'm appealing for parents and careers to educate their children on the impact of calling 999 when they don't need to.

"This ties up a controller, could resort in units being sent to the call box to check if there are any issues and therefore potentially taking units away from genuine calls."
