The police control room on Wednesday morning received yet another call stating that bombs would go off at six locations in the Capital. The threat was later found to be false, said the police.
Force alerted
“A PCR call was made around 8 a.m. from a mobile number saying that Rajiv Chowk metro station, Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, Hanuman Mandir, the Prime Minister’s house and Indira Gandhi International Airport would be blown up in a short while,” said a senior police officer.
The entire force was alerted as soon as the call was received. “The immediate response is to inform all the departments concerned, including SWAT teams, the Fire Department and anti-sabotage team,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) R.P. Meena.
He said all measures were already in place because Independence Day is just around the corner.
The teams inspected all the places mentioned by the caller.
“The number of such calls increase as the celebration inches closer,” admitted the officer. The police are trying to identify the caller, who switched off the phone immediately after the call was made. Recently, one Mehfuz was arrested for allegedly making a hoax call concerning the Red Fort.
