Police car crashes on the way to hoax call

A PARKES police vehicle involved in a collision on Thursday morning was responding to a hoax call in Forbes, it has been confirmed.

The accident occurred at 8am at the intersection of the Newell Highway and Clarke Street.

The police vehicle was travelling south on the Newell Highway with full lights and sirens activated.

The driver of a red Holden utility, a 19-year-old Parkes man, was stopped waiting to turn right into Clarke Street.

He was unaware of the approaching police vehicle behind him and commenced his turn into Clarke Street just as the police car started to overtake him.

The vehicles collided.

The utility ran into one a large pole on an industrial estate sign.

The police car continued into a tree, narrowly missing a large boulder on the passenger side.

Neither the police officers nor the 19-year-old driver of the ute were hurt in the crash.

Lachlan Local Area Command officers are investigating the circumstances of the urgent job in Forbes which had summoned all available officers.

The call turned out to be a hoax.
