There was no truth to Jay E. Schmidt’s July 21 letter to the editor, when 17,000 of the world’s leading scientists, backed up by numerous studies, say climate change is a hoax. Mr. Schmidt is just one of thousands of individuals and government officials who are being deceived by the promoters of climate change so you’ll give up your freedoms.
Here is a deception that could be very costly to Grand Island as reported in The Independent and NTV channel 13 a number of years ago: Because of the threats from environmental lawsuits and EPA fines, Grand Island was being required to spend $42 million on scrubbers at the Platte Generating Station to reduce sulfur dioxide and other pollutants that environmentalists claimed could cause cancer in children as far east as Ohio.
An expert on coal-fired generating power plant emissions stated in a Fox News story that Grand Island was being forced to needlessly spend $42 million on pollution controls because any sulfur dioxide emissions would’ve dissipated before reaching the Missouri River and were already 93 percent in compliance with EPA rules. After negotiations, a less expensive, yet costly emission system was installed, but only temporarily. Environmentalists opposed this because they feared other cities the size of Grand Island would want to do the same thing.
A number of books have been written exposing the real agenda on the environmental movement going back to 1958 — people control.
