A hoax Facebook post tells people Waynesboro is getting an Olive Garden - Richmond.com

WAYNESBORO — A hoax Facebook post has caught the eye of many people in the community. Waynesborodotcom.com posted that Olive Garden is coming to Waynesboro. Bad news for many — the post is a hoax.

“We have not heard of any interest from Olive Garden,” Courtney Cranor, assistant director of Waynesboro Economic Development, said.

The Waynesborodotcom.com post has more than 1,100 shares and 300 comments. In addition to the Olive Garden, the prank post also said a Dave and Buster’s and Hooters are coming. Cranor said there are no plans for any of these.

In the post, it claimed the restaurants will be in the development of the old Ladd Elementary School property on 13 acres on Rosser Avenue.

“Augusta County owns [the old Ladd Elementary School property] and they’re currently reviewing a contract on it,” Cranor said. “Once that’s sold, then the city of Waynesboro will get involved with the next step.”

She hoped the plans for the development would come up at the next Augusta County Board of Supervisors meeting.

The closest Olive Garden to Waynesboro is in Harrisonburg, at 45 Burgess Road.
