Florida Man comes to his senses.
Rush Limbaugh is a dumbass. I mean, are there more nuanced ways of saying that? I guess. I could say, "Rush Limbaugh is a narcissistic blow-hard who has long been more interested in hearing the sound of his own voice, and pushing the spread of misinformation to help further dubious Republican causes among his army of fans so sycophantic that they're literally called 'Dittoheads,' all so that he might further enrich himself. He's Alex Jones with a thirty year head start." But who has time for all that, so instead I'll just say, Rush Limbaugh is a dumbass.
Earlier this week, Limbaugh made the disingenuous and dangerous claim that Hurricane Irma was a media-constructed hoax, designed to increase ratings and sell people on the idea of climate change. This was of course nonsense, which should have been clear from what else Limbaugh said during the broadcast according to The Daily Beast:
Limbaugh repeatedly clarified that he is not an actual meteorologist, but he does have his own system of analysis. He has been “exactly right since last Friday” in his predictions, he claimed.
Well it turns out "not an actual meteorologist" was EXTREMELY wrong in this case. Today it was announced that the talk radio host, who lives in Florida, would be evacuating after all. It's almost like the media wasn't perpetuating some liberal hoax, but rather was reporting things that were happening. Limbaugh also says that hurricanes are a good way for the media to push climate change, but maybe he should interrogate that idea more. Maybe the reason increasingly severe hurricanes are a good way to tell people about climate change is because, well, they are often the result of climate change. Then again, I'm not a meteorologist either. But unlike Rush Limbaugh, I'm willing to listen to meteorologists because they are, you know, scientists.
