Hoax bomb threat interrupts day at Shepherd Elementary - Statesville Record Landmark

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after someone called in a bomb threat at Shepherd Elementary School on Wednesday that turned out to be a hoax.

Emergency responders cleared the building and secured the campus around 11 a.m., according to Susie Wiberg, a spokesperson for Iredell-Statesville Schools.

A search of the school found no bomb and students were allowed in around 12:30 p.m., Wiberg said.

“There are a lot of hungry children at Shepherd Elementary who are just now getting to lunch,” she said.

The school posted on Facebook just before 12:30 that school will resume as normal.

“All children and adults are safe,” the post said. “This was a hoax but we will always take threats seriously as our children's and staff's safety is our number 1 priority. We appreciate you trusting us and we are resuming regular school day activities.”

Sheriff Darren Campbell said his office is investigating the threat. There have been no arrests. Bomb-sniffing dogs were used on campus. No other information was immediately available.

Shepherd Elementary is on U.S. 21 between Mooresville and Troutman.
