KUCHING: A message circulating on WhatsApp warning motorists of a huge traffic operation due to be launched nationwide from Aug 15 until the Hari Raya Haji celebration has been confirmed as a hoax.
State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy chief Bingkok John confirmed the message was a definite hoax, when contacted today.
When asked further on the statistics of unpaid summons recorded until Aug 15, Bingkok replied that the statistics vary each day, whereby issuance of summons and payment are carried out on a daily basis.
The hoax message, which has gone viral on social media, claimed that a big operation will start on Wednesday involving various governmental agencies namely the State Immigration Department, The Malaysian Armed Forces, Royal Malaysian Police, Royal Malaysian Custome Sarawak and other uniformed bodies.
The message further claimed that the police have announced that there will be road blocks in all states starting this Wednesday night to summon vehicle drivers who has old or delayed summons and arrest warrants.
It added the Road Transport Department (JPJ) will be blocking roads to check on tinted glass, seat belts, sport rims ROTA, plate carbon fiber and hella flush.
The hoax message also warned people to protect themselves from being victims since 880 letters of vehicles checking and summons will be released daily, among other things.
