Gary W. Smith: It's still a hoax - Vallejo Times Herald

I appreciate acclimation by repeating of my factual information in Thom McCombs’ letter (Aug. 20, “From hoax to hubbub”). His letter, suggesting I’m pivoting on the issue of global warming, is hollow. I have never bought into the terror and destruction suggested by progressives’ “global warming” or “global cooling,” newly minted as “climate change.” If progressives are so practically dedicated, “where’s the beef”?

As to a plan, at least I offered one of a practical sustainability. It offsets progressive ‘climate change” predictions, which present no plan for the threat to ocean adjacent homes, or bay cities and bridges. Government should be building sea walls and raising bridge approaches, not spending money on high speed rail, dams and securing wetlands. From the government, I see no action except raiding hard-working Californians’ pocketbooks with nothing developing state economic viability.

Climate change, measured over eons, isn’t doing what you suggest in “the hottest year in history.” The year 1934 was a very hot year in the United States, ranking sixth behind 2016, 2015, 2012, 2006, and 1998. The fundamental problem is after the 1930s and 1940s, temperatures fall off again, an action reasonably in line with rapid rise in average sunspot records, followed by a sudden decline, and dare we say, variability.

Global warming is a hoax. Global warming’s advocates live lifestyles the opposite of what they preach — they all own multiple large homes, yachts, fly the world in private jets and consume electricity at levels in excess of the regular folk. If they were sincere in their concern, they would be leading reasonably different lives. Gosh, they might even donate their millions to offset the gloom and doom in their predictions.

I won’t hold my breath for that!
