One held for hoax call about bombs at Red Fort, CP hotel - The Hindu

A hotel manager was questioned after he allegedly made a hoax call claiming to have planted bombs inside the Red Fort and a Connaught Place hotel on Saturday.

Mehfuz, who said he was playing a prank on the authorities by randomly dialling numbers, landed himself in hot water after the police traced him.

The agency is now looking to see if any case is to be made against him or not.

Call on SaturdayThe incident was reported when one Nitin Kumar received the threat call on Saturday. He alerted the police soon after.Mr. Kumar said that Police Control Room vans rushed to his residence in Rohini within no time. Said he was PakistaniMr. Kumar purportedly told the police that he was attending a digital marketing class when he got a call around 7 p.m. The caller, who claimed to be from Pakistan, allegedly told him that he had planted bombs inside the Red Fort premises and at a hotel in Connaught Place, the police said.“The caller tried to keep up conversation and kept telling Mr. Kumar that he was from Pakistan. Kumar noticed that the call came from a Delhi number,” said a police officer.The caller was traced after Mr. Kumar approached the Prashant Vihar police station and provided a statement.Dialled many numbersMehfuz, a resident of Bihar, told the police that he had been working as a manager at a Paharganj hotel for the last few days, and that he was just having “some fun”. “He said he dialled many numbers. Mr. Kumar was the only one who took the call,” the officer added.
