HOPEDALE, Mass. - Local and state police responded to a reported shooting in Hopedale Sunday, but after an intense search it was determined to be a hoax.
The reported shooting prompted a large response -- Hopedale police, along with Milford police and Massachusetts State Police, rushed to a home on Mendon Street, but a search of the area turned up empty.
Boston 25 News cameras were at the scene after Hopedale police said they received the call around 10:45 p.m., and video showed the large response from law enforcement as police searched two homes on Inman and Mendon streets for any evidence of a possible shooting.
Police said they performed well-being checks and accounted for everyone, and found no signs of a shooting.
Officials are continuing to investigate the hoax call and anyone with information about it is asked to call police.
