GETTY
Just hours after his tragic death last Friday, ghoulish website yournewswire.com posted an article claiming LA police were investigating his death as a murder.
The cruel article made sickening claims detectives “are refusing to rule out a criminal homicide charge”.
It has now been shared more than 920,000 times on social media.
But the supposed “news story” appears to be fake – because coroners have confirmed his cause of death as suicide.
Despite the coroners' verdict, a spokesperson for the website has defended the article, telling Daily Star Online that its reporting "is not false".
His body was found at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, LA, last Thursday shortly after 9am.

Today the coroner confirmed the singer, aged 41, was found dead in his bedroom after hanging himself.
There was no suicide not and an autopsy is yet to be scheduled.
But the website peddled the dubious article nonetheless, writing: “Police have reportedly launched a murder investigation into Chester Bennington’s death with insiders believing it is ‘extremely likely’ the Linkin Park frontman was killed in eerily similar circumstances to his close friend Chris Cornell.
“Detectives are looking into whether Chester Bennington was murdered, with the death scene later arranged to resemble a suicide.
“They have put a team of investigators in place and are refusing to rule out a criminal homicide charge.”

A spokesperson for yournewswire.com told Daily Star Online that the website stands by its reporting.
He said: "Our website’s reporting is not false. The coroner confirmed that Chester Bennington died by hanging. There was no suicide note and the autopsy has yet to occur. So this does not actually refute our claims.
"The conclusions drawn in the article come primarily from a member of the police force here in LA, which is made clear by the writer.
"Family, friends and fans have also expressed disbelief that Chester committed suicide. His death is strikingly similar to Chris Cornell’s earlier this year, and raises some legitimate questions."
The website, whose tagline is “News. Truth. Unfiltered”, appears to be owned by The People’s Voice.
His wife, Talinda Ann Bentley, will no doubt be shattered by the reports about his death after supporting him through his struggle with depression.

Prior to his death, Chester talked openly about how Talinda had helped him to overcome his troubled state of mind.
He said she helped him "facing his demons" and "knew she was the one pretty instantly".
Chester was close friends with Soundgarden rocker Chris Cornell, who also took his life by suicide in May, and was godfather to one of Bennington's children.
