A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a school was evacuated in response to a bomb threat that turned out to be a hoax.
The teenager was held on suspicion of making a bomb threat and is in custody, said South Yorkshire Police.
Police were called at 09:40 GMT to Birley Academy, Birley Lane, Sheffield.
The school was evacuated as a precautionary measure but a "prolonged search" did not find anything, the force said.
Ch Supt Natalie Shaw said: "Hoax calls are malicious and irresponsible - they can cause a considerable deal of distress. Anyone found to have committed this offence could face a prison sentence."
The school said on Twitter it had "immediately implemented our robust and effective evacuation procedure" and had been in constant liaison with the police.
Birley Academy said it would be open as normal on Tuesday.
The boy was arrested on suspicion of malicious communications (making a bomb threat), police said.
