Waldoboro — Deputies and detectives from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, as well as an agent from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, assisted Waldoboro police in responding to a reported armed robbery and attempted kidnapping Sept. 1.
According to a press release from Waldoboro Police Chief William Labombarde, at approximately 2:15 p.m., investigators responded to the area of Routes 235 and 1 and Lady Slipper Lane for a report of an armed robbery/attempted kidnapping.
Upon arrival, Officer Larry Hesseltine made contact with two black males identified as Rashad McKinney, 25, of Augusta, and Nahshon McKinney, 22, of Rochester, N.Y.
They stated that they were both walking along Route 1 when a black station wagon pulled up alongside of them and pointed an AR rifle and robbed them of approximately $500.
As a result of the initial investigation, Labombarde said it was determined the incident was not an armed robbery or attempted kidnapping. It was further confirmed that there was no black station wagon with armed assailant(s) bearing AR assault rifle(s).
Subsequently, Rashad McKinney was arrested for violation of bail conditions and transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
Nahshon McKinney was not charged with a crime and was released from the Waldoboro Police Station.
"At this time we are treating this as a possible drug-related incident," Labombarde said. "This is an ongoing investigation."
Lobombarde said that although the initial report was alarming, there was no threat to the general public.
